NASA Software Subject to Vulnerability Print E-mail

It may be possible for a hacker to inject malicious code into NASA's open license Data Format (CDF) libraries by opening a specially crafted CDF file. Those most susceptible are universities and government offices since they are the primary users of the free software. NASA warns not to use the software to open any files from unknown sources.

Vulnerability in Facebook Print E-mail

The social networking site Facebook has been discovered to contain a vulnerability that would allow for hackers to steal user data, according to the BBC. Click, the BBC technology program, has reported that the error is in Facebook's application model. Users can write applications on Facebook, but Click has concluded that these apps might be able to collect personal information on users and their friends.

Several sites that McAfee has certified as Hackersafe have been found to be vulnerable to XSS. This is the second time this year that the security company has run into this problem. Successful exploitation of these vulnerabilities would allow a hacker to access authentication credentials or send users to malicious websites.

Thousands of Web Pages Vulnerable Thanks to Bill Print E-mail

Microsoft's Web server left half a million web pages and thousands of websites vulnerable to hackers, even some that belonged to the United Nations, according to security firm Websense. Along with the United Nations the target was also other Government websites. The bullseye was IIS (Internet Information Services), and the exploit was via an exploit that Microsoft was already aware of.
